Connecting Slack

The Slack integration keeps your team in the loop without switching tabs. Connect your Slack workspace once, and you can post project updates into Slack channels and turn Slack messages into Gravitask tasks. This guide covers connecting Slack and choosing what gets posted where.

Before you start

  • PlanThe Slack integration is included on the Pro and Business plans.
  • Who can connectYou need to be a workspace admin in Gravitask, and have permission to add apps to your Slack workspace.
  • One connection per workspaceEach Gravitask workspace connects to one Slack workspace. Everyone in the workspace can then use the integration.

Connect your Slack workspace

1

Open Integrations

In Gravitask, go to Settings → Integrations.
2

Connect Slack

Find the Slack card and click Connect. You are sent to Slack to authorize the app.
3

Authorize in Slack

Pick the Slack workspace you want to connect and click Allow. Slack asks you to confirm the permissions Gravitask needs (posting messages and, for task capture, reading basic profile info).
4

You're connected

Slack sends you back to Gravitask, where the Slack card now shows Connected with your workspace name.

Post project updates to a channel

Notifications are configured per project, so each team can choose its own channel and the events it cares about.

1

Open the project's Slack settings

Go to the project, open its Settings, and select the Slack tab.
2

Pick a channel

Choose the Slack channel that should receive updates for this project.
3

Choose which events to post

Toggle the notifications you want, such as task assigned, task completed, status changed, due soon, overdue, and new comments. Changes save as you go.

Create tasks from Slack

Once Slack is connected, anyone in the workspace can turn a message into a task or create one with a slash command. See Creating Tasks from Slack for the full walkthrough.

What Gravitask can access

Posting to channels

Gravitask posts update messages to the channels you link to a project. It does not read your channel history.

Matching you to your account

When you create a task from Slack, Gravitask looks up your Slack profile email to attribute the task to the matching Gravitask member. If there is no match, the task is created by the person who installed the integration.

Revoke any time

You stay in control. Disconnecting in Gravitask, or removing the app in Slack, immediately stops all access.

Managing the connection

Change a project's channel

Open the project's Slack settings and pick a different channel, or clear it to stop posting for that project.

Disconnect Slack

From Settings → Integrations, disconnect Slack to remove the workspace connection and stop all notifications and task capture.

Frequently asked questions

Which plans include the Slack integration?

Slack is part of the Pro and Business plans. The Free plan does not include it.

Do I have to link every project to a channel?

No. Notifications are opt-in per project. Link only the projects whose updates you want in Slack.

Can I connect more than one Slack workspace?

Each Gravitask workspace connects to a single Slack workspace. If you manage several Gravitask workspaces, connect Slack in each one separately.

How do I create tasks from Slack?

Use the Create Gravitask task message action or the /gravitask command — see Creating Tasks from Slack.
