Creating Tasks from Slack
When work shows up in Slack, you can capture it as a Gravitask task without leaving the conversation. There are two ways to do it: the Create Gravitask task message action, and the /gravitask slash command. Both open a short form so you choose where the task goes.
Before you start
- Slack connectedYour workspace admin needs to have connected Slack first. See Connecting Slack.
- A project to add toTasks are created inside a Gravitask project, which you pick in the form.
Turn a message into a task
This is the quickest way to capture a request, bug report, or follow-up that someone posts in a channel.
Open the message's actions
Fill in the task
Create it
Create a task with /gravitask
Use the slash command when you want to jot down a new task that is not tied to an existing message.
Type the command
/gravitask Fix the broken export and send it. The text after the command becomes the task title.Finish in the form
Where the task ends up
In the project you chose
The task lands in the selected project, in its first section (or the section the project's owner has set for captured work).
Created by you, when we can match you
Gravitask matches your Slack profile email to a workspace member and sets that person as the creator. If your Slack email is not a member, the task is created by the teammate who installed the Slack integration.
With the message as context
Using the message action carries the message text into the description, so the task keeps the original detail.
Troubleshooting
I don't see “Create Gravitask task”
The integration may not be connected yet. Ask a workspace admin to connect Slack in Settings → Integrations.
“/gravitask failed” or “the app did not respond”
This usually means the integration needs to finish setup. Let your admin know, and they can re-check the Slack connection.
The task was created by the wrong person
That happens when your Slack email is not a Gravitask member. Make sure your Slack profile email matches your Gravitask account.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a Gravitask user to create a task from Slack?
You create tasks from your Slack account. For the task to be attributed to you, your Slack profile email should match a member of the Gravitask workspace.
Can I choose which project the task goes into?
Yes. Every Slack task opens a form with a project picker, so you decide where it lands each time.
Does the slash command post in the channel?
No. The form is private to you, and the created task is confirmed with a message only you can see.
How do I set this up in the first place?
A workspace admin connects Slack once — see Connecting Slack.
